Solicitor specialising in Disability Rights & Public Law

Richard is Head of the Disability Rights and Public Law team at Pannone. Richard’s background is in social welfare law having worked as a welfare rights adviser in Manchester for over six years before training as a solicitor in 1993-4. Whilst at Glaisyers solicitors Richard developed their highly regarded housing and welfare law unit and earned a reputation as a committed and hard working lawyer.

Richard specialises in disability rights, community care and public law and human rights. He regularly pursues novel and challenging cases by way of judicial review, in the Court of Protection and, by way of appeal, in the Court of Appeal.

starInterview – Dr Martin Smith

Consultant Paediatric Neurologist

Dr Martin Smith is a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist based in John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, since 2015. Dr Smith completed his clinical training in child neurology in Newcastle upon Tyne and Great Ormond Street Hospital before appointment to Birmingham Children’s Hospital as a Consultant Neurologist between 2006 and 2015. He was awarded PhD in 2004 for research into models of brain reorganisation after childhood stroke.

Outside clinical work other professional activities include a role as Assistant Editor of the medical journal Developmental Medicine Child Neurology, research and teaching.

Dr Smith has a special interest in rehabilitation after acquired brain injury and passionately believes that children and families suffering these life changing injuries deserve the very best of support continuing long term.
